Description: The inverted poses offer a wide range of benefits. They revitalize the body by taking weight off the legs, improve circulation, and tone and balance the glandular and nervous systems.  Sirsasana (headstand), is considered the king of the inversions. It requires strength and stamina to raise your legs away from your head and neck to create the necessary space for the correct alignment of the spine. This two-part series will explore ways to properly prepare for and practice Sirsasana so you have the confidence to safely add it to your home practice.

Each class sequence will highlight poses and setups to be practiced between our sessions. Class recordings will be available to support your practice.

Open to students who have learned Sirsansa in class and are interested in exploring ways to bring greater lightness, ease and stamina to this essential part of the inversions practice.

A Level 3 Certified Iyengar Yoga Instructor with over 20 years of teaching experience, Tonya Garreaud has studied with both B.K.S. Iyengar and Geeta Iyengar on their teaching visits to the US and has traveled several times to India to study directly with the Iyengar family.

While teaching, Tonya provides clear instructions and responds with sensitivity to each student’s needs. Her classes are challenging and rewarding; students find her friendly personality keeps them smiling even while learning a difficult pose.

Tonya has served two terms on the board of the Iyengar Yoga Association of the Northwest. She was also a member of the steering committee and served as venue coordinator for the Certified Iyengar Yoga Teachers Convention which was held in Portland in May, 2010.

Tonya has taught yoga for medical research, working on a study with Kaiser Permanente Center for Health Research on the benefits of yoga for teenage girls who are at risk of being overweight. She was instrumental in developing a home-practice guide for use in this study.
